Sunday Stitching... and a finishing question...

I heard from Bine a couple of days ago, letting me know she has received the little birthday gift I had sent to her a little while back. Poor Bine, she is so busy packing up her life and her daughter to move from her homeland of Germany to Canada at the end of the month, while her DH is already in Canada and working... poor girl, I hope all goes smoothly, and my prayers are with her. I stitched her this little house fob in commemoration of the Neighborhood Round Robin we are currently in together:

Home is Best Fob

M Designs

32 ct Vintage Country Mocha Belfast Linen, GAST, WDW

And, of course, my weekly update of the Spring Ride SAL. I finished all of the off white in her dress on this page. Now I need to stitch two flowers and their leaves, and I will have finished this page! Yay!!

I have a finishing question for anyone out there who has made a mattress pincushion. I started my first one today, and will probably do the finishing tomorrow. But, I am confused. I have looked at three tutorials (all in French) and read Kathy Barrick-Dieter's directions on Quaker Pincushion... none answer this key question. When you add the thin strip of linen between the upper and lower sides, what do you do to close the ends of the strip of linen? Vero's tutorial appears to say you just fold them and keep stitching along... but won't that still leave them able to open up? Maybe this is a duh question, but I sure cannot find an answer... yet I know someone out there in the blogosphere knows - thank you in advance!!

Wow she's growing really fast! You've loads loads and she's looking so pretty already.

That must be so much hard work for Bine preparing for a move like that on her own. I bet she really appreciated her gift. It's very pretty :o)

To close the strip, you just whipstitch the small ends together. It's not very clear from the photos, but you backstitch a very narrow rectangle all around your joining strip, rather than just backstitch along the long sides. If you look at my post here: http://focusonfinishing.wordpress.com/2007/03/04/fal-weekend-karenv/ (2nd picture) you can see where I joined the strips at the corner. HTH!

What a sweet fob for Bine. I think it's very fitting for her to with her moving to a new home.

I can't help you with your quetion but, I see that Karen has. Hope you can get it all worked out.

I was going to say the same as Karen - you backstitch all around the long strip then whip stitch the short end together :)

I hope Bine is OK. That's a big move.

Glad Karen answered your question so well - I was trying to formulate an answer and mine sounded a mess. ;)

Beautiful pictures, once again. The fob for Bine is really lovely.

Love the house fob! Of course I am partial to things with houses, birds and trees!

Speaking of trees, the more I watch your progress on AAFG, the more I want to do this piece for myself!

Looks a bit like how you make biscornu with the backstitch from the pics on FoF link. Think I may try making one for myself. Maybe a small on eto start off with. Love the fob. xx

Your gift for Bine looks great. I am so jealous of Bine that she makes the big step of emigration. Hope she will ove it there.

The fob is so cute, and what a fun way to celebrate the RR you did together. Spring Ride is looking lovely too, congrats with almost completing another page. Sorry can't help on the finishing, I haven't been brave enough to try anything like that yet.
