2018 was a fairly productive year. I finished it off with a stash busting version of attic24's neat ripple. I had quite a bit of King Cole Splash DK and King Cole Baby Drifter DK on hand... and I love how it worked up. And it's pretty huge too, cuddly and warm.
Very happy that in 2018 I made a New Year ornament. This one is so cute from Miss T's blog.
For Amelia, who will now receive annual ornaments, I stitched up Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery's Christmas Morning Goodies from the 2018 JCS Christmas Ornament Issue. I had some Silkweaver Elegance Opalescent Belfast on hand for it.
Also for Amelia...who eats a lot of strawberries.... a giant crocheted strawberry pillow. This was a free pattern found somewhere online... lots of fpdc in this one!
And, for a very good friend's birthday, I made Daystar Throw from Crochet World February 2019. I used Lion Brand Cupcake in Beach Ball. Very glad she likes it, and it won't be the last one I make...🎁🎁🎁Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-48222521384455339442018-11-30T20:05:00.000-05:002018-11-30T20:16:52.215-05:00October and November UpdatesHello Friends, Life got away from me too... am combining October and November in one post...looks better that way 😁 I did get quite a bit done...

Let's see, what did I get done... I finished up redagape's Casual Granny CAL. I love how this blanket turned out. I used only SSDK from my stash for this project, which began in February. In all, I used Fondant, Apricot, Lemon, Violet, Bluebell, Pistachio, Cloud Blue, Wisteria, Spring Green, White, Citron, Aspen, Parma Violet and Soft Peach in varying amounts. I had several balls of Mushroom and it worked well for the finishing. I did not care for how the designer joined the squares, and she had little or no border on her blanket. I chose to use a flat braid join and one of Edie Eckman's borders to finish mine off. I think it worked out well.

I also finished the Atlanticus Blanket which I previewed in my last post. I used Chimera Lion Brand Mandala yarn. This took me quite a while... count, rip out, count and recount again.... Worth it in the end. This is a Christmas gift for a very unsuspecting family member 😉

For a friend, I stitched Penguin Joy by Heart in Hand Needleart on a scrap of R&R Reproductions 30 ct Busy Bee Blend linen. Fun, quick stitch.

Super excited that tomorrow I shall deliver this slightly early birthday gift to someone special. I made another Lilliana Blanket by Hooked on Sunshine. She likes peach and aqua together, and had to make this when I discovered Sea Breeze Lion Brand Cupcake yarn. Prettier than I ever thought it would be, yet hard to photograph since winter arrived very early here...

Still on the Lilliana theme, for some time now I kept thinking the pattern would adapt well to a pillow. It did. Here is my effort in Balloons Lion Brand Cupcake on a 16" pillow form. I grabbed the Edie Eckman book again to add a border. Very colorful and sweet.
I present to you the 2018 Christmas freebie from iStitch Designs. Carol asked me to stitch a model for her, and I was happy to oblige. I chose 40 ct Lambswool linen, the called for DMC floss and a gold beaded edge. Again, the dark winter sky is my foe for picture taking... Carol made such a pretty design. I hope many stitchers choose to make this one up. 🎄
Amelia will be 2 tomorrow. Her party theme is Under the Sea. I bought her winter clothes, though. Had to whip up this Willa the Whale by One and Two Company to put atop her gift bag, keeping with the theme. I used King Cole Splash DK in Apricot and SSDK in Spring Green and Spice. I think the colors are surely cheerful.
And, Mom has a birthday this weekend too! I made this Willow Blanket in 2016. The color recipe is by The Patchwork Heart and is done in SSDK. I again used an Edie Eckman border. I had immediately tucked this away after I had blocked it, knowing I would eventually know who needed it... tomorrow it will be gifted to Mom ❤🎁❄
September brought very few finishes for me, even though I felt as if I stitched and crocheted often. Some months are just like that, though. I did make my monthly Christmas ornament. I chose Noel by Nikyscreations in the JCS 2018 Christmas Ornament Issue. I stitched mine on 40 ct Vintage Country Mocha with the called for DMC floss. It's small and cute, and I love it.
I also made my way through the month's installment for Redagape's Casual Granny CAL. This is the Happy Hippy Square. I chose colors that make the flowers look like suns. I think they will be cheerful in my blanket.
I have been focusing a lot on Hooked on Sunshine's Atlanticus and hope to be finished very soon. This will be a Christmas gift for someone special and am using Lion Brand Mandala yarn in Chimera. I have learned with this design to count, count some more and then count again 😉😉😉😉😉😉Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-59746873202909685782018-09-01T08:41:00.001-04:002018-09-01T08:51:44.547-04:00End of August Update

My ornament for August is Lizzie Kate's Rejoice on 32 ct Cobblestone Belfast with one strand of CC floss. It was hard to believe the 1998 copyright on this free chart. 20 years.... where does time go?
Much of this month's needlework time was spent on making this Lilliana by Hooked on Sunshine. Christmas gift making has begun, and this is for someone who loves the beach. I made mine with slightly more than 7 cakes of Lion Brand Cupcake in Moody Blue and a 4 mm hook, Great pattern with excellent directions.
I also made part 7 of Red Agape's Casual Granny CAL.... a very colorful addition this month. I think there is only one month of squares left to go now.

And I started an Atlanticus by Hooked on Sunshine using Lion Brand Mandala in Chimera for yet another Christmas gift. This needs a serious blocking, I will do that once I come to the end of this current yarn cake.
Hello.... I am still making a Christmas ornament monthly. For July I chose Prairie Christmas Cat by Prairie Schooler. I used 32 ct Cobblestone Belfast linen with one strand of CC floss. I wanted the kitty to resemble my recently departed Anouk, and selected Balsam Fir, Black Coffee, Magnolia Blossom, Ribbon Red and Sassy Brass. It really does make me think of her and was a fun stitch.

In July I also kept up with RedAgape's Casual Granny CAL. Part 6 is the Daisy Granny Square. I chose to pull out Wisteria, Spring Green, Pistachio, Apricot, Bluebell, Fondant, Aspen and Parma Violet from my previous squares to border my daisies.

I made up a little friend in July as well. This is Carlos the Hummingbird in Zoomigurumi 6. The designer is Younique Crafts. I made him up with Stylecraft Special DK in Spring Green, Empire, Aspen, Midnight and Grey. He has been spotted here by my honeysuckle vine 😊
Caitlin and I finished up Hooked on Sunshine/Projectarian's Orbit CAL in July. Here is mine, guarding DH's stack of video games. He is made primarily with King Cole Baby Drifter in Kingfisher, with SSDK in Stone, White, Aspen, Apricot and Empire. Apparently, he is a she... Caitlin named her Aurora.

And Caitlin's wee Orbit... she used fingering yarn for hers. He is so sweet! I am so proud of her, am still waiting to hear what she has named him...or her? We will be making the Penelope Trixiebelle CAL together in the fall.
In preparation of putting our Orbit's together, I made this little Tea Party Pincushion for Caitlin. It is made with DROPS Safran and the pattern is from Simply Crochet, Issue 72. I left off the embroidered face...that is not her style 😎
I also worked up this Orchid Lace Baby Blanket after reading about a charity in need of handmade baby blankets. They mentioned they were short on baby boy blankets. I had two cakes of Lion Brand Mandala in Centaur that needed a purpose, so this blanket was born.
And here is the letter I received from Coping with LM, in case others may feel motivated to contribute as well. The blankets are put into care packages for families whose babies struggle with breathing dosorders.
And finally, earlier in July I also made up this wee little Fruity Ami Strawberry from Inside Crochet, Issue 103. I used Scheepjes Cotton 8 and Scheepjes Catona.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-10354470581445742562018-07-01T08:01:00.002-04:002018-07-01T08:16:13.857-04:00End of June Update

June felt a little bit unproductive for me. I did continue on with the Christmas Ornament SAL, having selected Lizzie Kate's On Dasher. I love the colors on this one.

I also continued on with Redagape's Casual Granny CAL. This month we did an Aztec Granny Square, and it took me some time to select my colors. Ultimately, I opted for SSDK Apricot, Aspen and Spring Green.
A great deal of my stitching time in June was spent right here on Briar Rose by Hooked on Sunshine. I chose to make mine with Scheepjes Whirl in Lemon Cassis Creme. I am coming to the end of my second cake, as seen in my yarn holder in the photo. I splurged on a third cake to give this very delicate blanket more size. It's getting huge, at least in terms of stitch count. Each round takes quite a lot of time, but I really love this project.
Caitlin was busy with her amigurumi again this month. Lalylala's Cupcake Ella was one of her adorable finishes...
...and then she made one for Uncle Mike (my DH) for his birthday, adapting it to be more masculine with candies and Sprinkles on his icing 😙
I also started the extremely popular Orbit the Dragon CAL. This is my part 1 completed. I finished part 2 last night, no photo yet. So many parts to sew on this one! Caitlin is also making one or two Orbits... looking forward to seeing hers soon.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-16489597810733960352018-05-29T18:03:00.001-04:002018-05-29T19:52:21.942-04:00End of May Update

I just browsed through my phone again and grabbed some pics for this month. I stitched up Waiting for Christmas Night by Mani di Donna as my SAL ornament this month. Having taken a class at Celebration with Simona Bussiglieri earlier this month, it felt like time to do this one from my list. The chart is in the 2016 Christmas-Winter Issue of Punch Needle and Prim Stitching Magazine. I used an unknown scrap of 36 ct Lakeside Linens fabric and subbed the floss with Crescent Colors floss... simply because I had my ring of CC floss on hand and it was easier to just use it. 😊
At some point I wanted to just do a little small project. I decided to do Lalylala's Last Minute Easter Bunny-Egg CAL from her Instagram account. It's very wee. I used some Scheepjes Cotton 8 yarn I had on hand. DH now has it sitting on his desk...lol.
I completed part 4 of Red Agape's Casual Granny CAL this month. The two circular ones are the new addition. There are 32 total squares made up so far, but it was easier to photograph one example of each style of square. I am having great fun with this CAL. I am using leftover Stylecraft DK yarn, and am enjoying selecting my colors each month.
This month I continued on with LHN's Farmhouse Christmas. I am now through the first four parts and eagerly awaiting the arrival of the fifth. I am stitching mine on Lakeside Linens 40 ct Reindeer linen. It's so sweet and tiny. Just love it.
A new start this month is Rosewood Manor's Garden Row, a design from the 2015 CS&N Keepsake Calendar. These colors are super cheerful. My linen is Lakeside Linens 36 ct Pecan Butter.
My second class at Celebration this month was with the incomparable Jeannette Douglas. I greatly enjoyed sitting with an old stitching friend in this class and we enjoyed Jeannette's enigmatic style, quick wit and exceptional needlework skills...
Also, my niece continues to become quite the devoted crocheter. Only two months as a crocheter, and last night she texted me these adorable photos of Lalylala's ladybird complete with a pupa. Caitlin chose pinks and yellows for her ladybird, putting her bachelor's degree in design right to work....love it! 😚
And now, with a heavy heart, I share that on May 4th we said goodbye to our beloved Anouk. Anouk would have been 16 on June 15th. She survived a partial mastectomy two years ago. Sadly, cancer still grabbed her and she quickly began to fail. I hope she found her way over the Rainbow Bridge and is reunited with her sister/littermate Lily who left us in 2016. We miss Anouk terribly 😐 I miss her deep throaty chirps for her dinner. I will always love you, Anouk 😙Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-43259544067054316462018-05-03T17:28:00.002-04:002018-05-03T17:43:06.774-04:00End of April Update

And an incredibly proud moment to share. My niece wanted to learn crochet, and most especially wanted to make amigurumi.... and more specifically, Lalylala designs. She jumped right in. I have also continued to work on CrochetObjet's Four Seasons Chevron Blanket using my own Scheepjes Catona color conversion. Am now past the halfway point, and also love the colors in this one.

And speaking of loving colors, I really love this one... completed the third installment of RedAgape's Casual Granny CAL. This month I used SSDK in Lemon, not quite as pale cream as it appears here. Looking forward to next month's surprise square. Maybe some blue?

Made up this little pillow over the snow days, it's aptly called In Need of Spring Break. It was a CAL last year by Crochet Memories. I used Stylecraft Special Aran in Plum, Meadow, Khaki and Parchment. A little more color and cheer for Mike's home office. She is finally finished.... LHN's Christmas Angel for the FB LHN Christmas Ornament SAL. Life got a bit in the way. Sadly, I also got a little lazy... I switched to sewing method while watching TV one afternoon for about a row of stitches and now my angel appears to have a wrinkle in her skirt... ah well, I knew better. She is stitched on an unknown pieces of Lakeside Linens 40 ct linen, and used called for threads except for B5200 for her dress and subbed her skin tone to a lighter shade. On to new things now. Hope you are all well :-)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-6465215812080439252018-02-28T18:48:00.000-05:002018-02-28T18:51:05.171-05:00Casual Granny CAL Start

And another start from my 2018 goals list. This is Casual Granny CAL from Redagape. Very exciuted about the pretty sample she shows, and the gorgeous colors. I have the yarn, another stash buster. Will take most of the year as well... One square released per month, make 8 of each, for 10 months. I am behind, this is the February square. On my way!
This weekend I finished a long running project, and feel so happy now. In July 2017, I started a Gypsy Blanket as a means to clear out a whole bunch of my SSDK yarn stash. Great plan, but I still have a ton and a half of yarn left after this finish!

I was so exctied to take a photo this morning that I did not care all that much that it was 7 AM on a winter morning, and I have a north facing house, so morning sun is at a bit of a premium. But anyhow, here it is sitting on the love seat in Mike's home office.

This is a super warm and very colorful blanket. There are bits and pieces of lots of my projects in this blanket, including some super bright ones from Erin's graduation blanket...lol. Am very pleased with this super stash buster. There is no written pattern for this. I made 192 three round/three color squares and attached them via a super secure join as you go method from a book called Crochet (I used that pattern to make Amelia's baby blanket), added a border of two rounds of one color/one round of Midnight around those, seven rounds of granny stitch (the 7th of which is the color of the border) and added Edie Eckman's Border 93 as a finish.

(For my own records, colors used are white, aster, dark brown, cream, bottle, midnight, cloud blue, lemon, raspberry, apricot, khaki, copper, sherbet, walnut, plum, teal, graphite, mocha, meadow, grape, turquoise, pale rose, saffron, bluebell, pomegranate, magenta, sunshine, green, claret, candyfloss, shrimp, lavender, silver, parchment, soft peach, fondant, lipstick, jaffa, bright green, citron, violet, denim, spring green, clematis, camel, aspen, wisteria, petrol, gold, stone, spice, lime, storm blue, tomato, parma violet, sage, duck egg, pistachio, cypress, lobelia, kelly green, fuchsia purple, boysenberry, empire, mushroom... 65 colors).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-35072821416740395232018-02-21T15:13:00.001-05:002018-02-21T15:41:04.355-05:00Farmhouse Christmas Start

I decided to do LHN's Farmhouse Christmas this year. Who isn't, it seems? I decided not to post mine on FB, there are hundreds popping up there. I am doing mine on 40 ct Lakeside Linens Reindeer, which was a limited edition color years back when I was in Shakespeare's Peddler's LL fabric of the month group. The fabric is a bit darker than it apears here. I am using the called for floss and colors, along with the free complimentary border. First installment, Little Red Barn, is completed.
I decided to do the 2018 Moogly CAL this year as part of my effort to productively destash my yarn. I liked the use of variegated yarn on the borders of the squares on Moogly's blog. I found that I had two balls of King Cole Drifter for Baby DK in Kingfisher that looked fun. Dug out SSDK in cream, stone, spice, aspen and teal... and we'll just see how it goes. As I am using DK yarn rather than Aran yarn, I shall have to make a few squares from previous years to make my throw large enough. This will take time. Only 2 squares released per month.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-9309558412346837672018-02-12T10:53:00.001-05:002018-02-12T10:57:10.803-05:00February Ornament

My February SAL ornament is all set. I chose a square from Barbara Ana's Classic Christmas Charm in an old CS&N magazine. Love the little Rudolph. I used an unknown scrap of Lakeside Linens 40 ct linen and the called for DMC floss. Another stash buster.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-19269357658806926472018-02-11T09:25:00.000-05:002018-02-11T09:25:06.702-05:00Primavera Pillow

Last night I finished a project I had started sometime last year. This is a function of my quest to clear out stash space. Man, yarn takes up serious space in the craft room. SMH. The lighting is terrible. It is, after all, a winter morning here. This is Primavera Pillow, inspired by Dada's Place. I wanted a delicate, feminine, romantic theme. I used James K. Brett Cotton On DK yarn in C02, C016, C024, C023, C021 and C025. I finished off with Border 33 in Edie Eckman's Around the Corner Crochet Borders book.
This weekend I made up a new little amigurumi. After spending several hours yesterday teaching my niece some of the crochet basics she needs to do amigurumi, I came home and started one of my own. I finished him today. Let me introduce you to Lil Quack The Duck by Little Muggles in Zoomigurumi. Another stash buster, using SSDK in white, sunshine and cloud blue. 😎Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-34640795339683273882018-01-28T11:02:00.000-05:002018-01-28T11:02:13.300-05:00Spring Painted Roses Pillow

This morning I finished off a pillow for an exchange gift. I am early in finishing but this one just carried me away. I used Cherry Heart Designs Painted Roses pattern, and added Edie Eckman's Border 35 for a small ruffle edge. Very hard to take a photo in winter in my north facing house, and I propped it in a south facing window to capture the colors better. The exchange has a spring theme and these colors match the intended recipient's color wishes.

Notes to self, as I desire to make a pillow like this for my own home: 4 mm hook, backing square is 19 rounds.

This was a stash buster 100%. SSDK in Cream, Gold, Camel, Parma Violet, Duck Egg, Soft Peach, Apricot, Lemon, Pale Rose, Wisteria, Cloud Blue, Clematis, Raspberry, Cypress, Meadow, Pistachio.
I have decided to try to follow the LHN/CCN Christmas Ornament SAL on Facebook this year, as well as stitching with Andrea. I was able to get January done. I chose LHN's Old Colonial. I opted to put this year's date on mine rather than 1798. I had ordered the R&R 32ct Winter Brew linen with the chart. My small piece was very heavily creased from folding by the LNS. I stitched my piece way up in the corner of that and trimmed it tight for this pillow finish. I used Willow Green belfast for the backing, for a little bit of a twist. I am pretty satisfied with those choices. And... used what I had on hand and meets a stash buster goal for me too.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9060656.post-48922267942933154862018-01-23T08:39:00.000-05:002018-01-23T08:49:03.331-05:00January Ornament Finish

And finished! At last, I have finished my first ornament for the Christmas Ornament SAL with Andrea. This one was an adventure for me. I cannot locate my DMC 169. It must be kitted somewhere, and I subbed it with CC Blue Moon. Am very pleased with that. The chart is from PNPS 2017 Christmas-Winter Issue and is by Nikyscreations. Unfortunately, the chart was poorly edited. There are no instructions that this was to be stitched with one strand of floss (oh well...), had to guess what color to back stitch the wing, and the wing was not properly outlined on the chart. Muddled through, and am content. I am still quite fixed on small ornaments with beaded edgings. I find I can always fit these on the tree no matter how loaded up my tree gets every year now 😁
I also have my first 2018 finish to share. This is Cherry Heart Design's Granny Goes Large. I worked this up with my Paint Box DK Rainbow Color Pack. This huge bag of yarn simply had no place to live in my house, therefore this blanket was born. It's big, bright, a bit dizzying and hard to photograph 😎. This year will be a stash busting year for me. Whenever possible, I plan to use what I have on hand (thus the floss substitution noted above) and see how much stash I can clear out. While we all think our cross stitch stash can get large and take up space, I don't think it can ever hold a candle to how much space yarn takes up... 😂Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8
