The Strange Bird

It's another Paradigm Lost Tuesday, and Jo and I are still stitching away on this sampler. Tonight I stitched the strange bird that is just about right in the middle of the sampler. I have to admit, this is the one motif that I have always been skeptical about on this sampler. Well, it's not like it is an attractive bird. But, after spending much of the evening stitching away on the little guy, I have developed a little fondness for him. He does look a bit better in real life than in the picture on the chart. He is still strange, though...

I heard from Kathy today that she received the little gift that I made for her birthday. It arrived in the UK quite quickly, but I told her to please go ahead and open it up even though it is not her birthday yet. I am so happy she was thrilled with it!

Good news regarding Angus! I weighed him before bed last night, and he is up to 6.1 pounds. This is a good gain from his 5.4 post-surgical weight! Our digital postal scale is quite trustworthy, so I am hoping the new weight is fairly accurate :-)

Anyone still interested in a Neighborhood Round Robin, due to start in July?? If so, please let me know. I could use a couple more stitchers - thanks!

  1. I like the 'strange' bird. It looks like he's showing off his feathers, trying to attract a mate! It is a beautiful sampler.

  3. Hooray for Angus! Well done, all of you!
As for the bird: as soon as I saw it I thought phoenix. Now I don't know what a phoenix is supposed to look like, but I think it should be something like this. I like him. (I've decided also that it's a he).

  4. Brilliant news about Angus you have all done so well!!
I like your bird and the sampler is coming along so much now...it will be a stunner :-)

  5. I think the bird is a phoenix (which might account for it's "oddity". There is a fabulous french blog that publishes a sampler motif each week and their phoenix is virtually identical (theirs faces the other way) A phoenix symbolises hope.

Love the fob! You do such lovely finishes!

  23. I love the bird, which I'm guessing is either a phoenix or a stylized eagle. He's awesome.

  35. Your fob is adorable, and in my favorite colors too. I haven't seen the DMC variations yet, or used them, I'll have to check them out. I really like varigated threads as I get fun color changes without having to change the floss all the time.

As to your strange little bird, I like him. He looks like what I think a Phonix rising from the ashes might, stretching and shaking himself after his transformation.

Glad Angus is doing better, the weight gain certainly seems a good sign.

  36. Yay, go Angus - glad to hear he's gaining weight and getting back to normal again. Have to say I really love your strange little bird ... it's very cute to me :) And the fob you made for Kathy, what can I say? I now have to buy a new keyboard, as it's covered from head to toe in some serious drool! ;) Seriously, it's a real stunner!! :D
