Our Christmas Shrub

Well, OK, I will show our little tree that can barely hold ornaments... but first I just heard that my dear friend Karen has received some Christmas ornaments that I sent off to her... one I stitched months ago and already shared, and then I also recently put this one together for her:
Snowman Ornament

Prairie Schooler

32 ct Dirty Belfast Linen, DMC Floss

And here it is.... not a great photo and I had to straighten the leaning tree up a little before I took the photo, thus leaving some of the ornaments hanging funny (I had not noticed at the time).... here it is.... see, it does not even come over the railing of the balcony of our foyer! LOL (I know, it needs a star or angel on top for some sort of balance - my angel is too big!)

Our first "snow day" today - not a ton of snow, but really slick roads this morning and I chose to sleep in and then we Christmas shopped ;-)

Oh! Can someone tell me if I have this right?? The words Cashel, Belfast, Edinburgh and Newcastle used for linen are provided by Zweigart (other than being cities in Europe, of course!).... and.... well, Cashel is 28 ct, Belfast is 32 ct, Edinburgh is 36 ct, and Newcastle is 40 ct... right? I think they have others in higher counts too, but I really do not know. So, how do people have 32 ct Cashel, and 28 ct Belfast??? Makes no sense to me. So, am I missing something here? Wichelt just uses the count numbers and does not use the European city/town label... right??

Stitched on today: Finished a replacement exchange for someone for HoE, started CE return exchange for Marne

Carol,

Who is it that has 32ct Cashel and 28ct Belfast? If they've labeled it that way.. they are absolutely incorrect. You were right in your original counts/fabric names.

Cute little tree. It's like a sweet stitching Charlie Brown tree. Love it!

Cute ornament!

No thoughts on the linen, other than that Edinburgh is in Scotland, Newcastle is in England, and Belfast is in Northern Ireland :)

First up Carol, your tree looks really well laden. Thanks for showing us. I really wanted to see what it looked like.

Second, the linen names - you are absolutely correct. There is no such thing as 32 count cashel or 28 count belfast. Either the count or the geography are wrong! I've not seen anybody trying to do cross stitch on Kingston (55 count) which is the only other one we refer to by name here in NZ

That is a cute tree! And I love the Snowman ornament.

What your tree lacks in size, it makes up for in appearance (very pretty)!

There's also 25ct Dublin too ;) As others have said, you are right, 32ct is Belfast and 28ct is Cashel.

Your tree is very sweet :)

The names of Linen are correct, there is one more: 18 ct. - Cork.
Your Christmas tree is so cute!

Hi Carol, Zweigart do name the Needlework Linen as well as giving it a count. Who knows why, I think it might be to honour the places where once, great production mills were to be found or... it could be just to differentiate between the counts so there can be absolutely no mistake. HTH

Love the ornament Carol, I really *need* to stitch one of these during my time off over the holidays.

As for the linens, the list you gave is correct. There is no such thing as 28 count Belfaast or 32 count Cashel. Just a matter of mixing up names and counts.

As for the history, I don't know how they came to name the linens after Irish cities, but do know that Zweigart is a Germany based company that has been around for a very long time ( think over 100 years at least).

Don't forget the 18 count Cork! ;)

Obviously someone's made a mistake in listing their fabrics with the count/name mixed up.

I've never quite figured out the system they use here, with 'draads'. You get 12 draads, 11 draads, etc.
