Spring Painted Roses Pillow

This morning I finished off a pillow for an exchange gift.  I am early in finishing but this one just carried me away. I used Cherry Heart Designs Painted Roses pattern, and added Edie Eckman's Border 35 for a small ruffle edge.  Very hard to take a photo in winter in my north facing house, and I propped it in a south facing window to capture the colors better. The exchange has a spring theme and these colors match the intended recipient's color wishes.

Notes to self, as I desire to make a pillow like this for my own home:  4 mm hook, backing square is 19 rounds.

This was a stash buster 100%.  SSDK in Cream, Gold, Camel, Parma Violet, Duck Egg, Soft Peach, Apricot, Lemon, Pale Rose, Wisteria, Cloud Blue, Clematis, Raspberry, Cypress, Meadow, Pistachio.

Floral Pillows for Christmas

I spent the past few days making pretty flower sofa cushions for my mother and mother in law...

I used Painted Roses by Cherry Heart Designs, and made a nine patch that fits a 14" firm pillow form.  I added borders to each from Edie Eckman's  Around the Corner Crochet Borders book.  The pillow on the left uses border 69, while the pillow on the right uses border 33.

Both pillows are made with Stylecraft Special DK yarn.  On the left I used Parchment as the main/background color.  On the right I used Stone.

Between the two pillows I used scaps of White, Turquoise, Denim, Shrimp, Pomegranate, Lipstick, Saffron, Cloud Blue, Bluebell, Gold, Fuschia Purple, Apricot, Pale Rose, Raspberry, Spice, Claret, Burgundy, Silver, Clematis, Magenta, Sherbet, Boysenberry, Lobelia, Wisteria, Violet, Lavender, Duck Egg, Storm Blue, Petrol and Parma Violet.

For the Parchment pillow, I used Pistachio and Cypress for the leaves,  while I used Pistachio and Meadow for the leaves on the Stone pillow.  I used Mocha for the square joining for both pillows.

The back of each pillow is a colorful granny incorporating colors used in the flower motifs.  I added one round of half double crochet granny stitch on each side before joining the back to front.  This helped me easily reach the required 14" and not distort my work.  As a happy coincidence, I think it looks very delicate too.

Now to make one for myself after all holiday crafting is finished ;-)

Let the finishing begin...

Many ends now to sew in.... border to do.... the one charted or select another?
Loving the results so far.

Hello

Hello, after a few messages from old stitching blogging friends, I realized just how long I have been among the missing. I think I shall try a go at this again now. I have been stitching off and on, yet lately crochet has caught my attention. It is easier with my headaches and tinnitus, for sure. Less of a forward head posture, which causes me those symptoms to a greater degree. And I don't need to wear my cheaters for crochet either. I had two big finishes just this week...

Painted Roses Baby Blanket
Cherry Heart
Stylecraft Special DK in Duck Egg, Grass Green, Fondant, Candyfloss, Lobelia, Lavender, Wisteria, Clematis, Apricot, Citron and Aspen

And this very large afghan which was a CAL discovered on Facebook, and is called Around the Bases. For 16 weeks (mid August to this past Sunday), I would awake and open a blog for the week'S directions. This one leaves tomorrow to a friend... three more of these to finish off before the holidays... Now I am busily stitching my Christmas ornament gifts :-)
