Su's Neighborhood RR has its official start here...

Here is what I did off and on today... I got a decent start on Su's Neighborhood RR. I am the first to receive it from Su. I am starting with stitching much of the birdhouse from Prairie Schooler's Garden Samplers leaflet, c. 1994. Su specifically asked if someone would stitch this for her, so I am happy to oblige since I do own the chart. She admired it on the original Dijon RR that has inspired this group. It has been a bit of a challenge. The two houses Su stitched to start off her RR are really quite petite. This birdhouse looks like a towering Redwood tree in comparison. So, using my minor in art and my heritage as the daughter of an artist, I put some thought into this and decided to place the birdhouse down in the lower corner of my block. This should result in giving it the appearance of being in the foreground of the block. I then plan to stitch my house, maybe a tree, and surely some flowers/probably at least one animal, a bit higher up in the block so that they do appear to be distant behind the HUGE birdhouse... This birdhouse does still need the centers of the flowers filled in.... and two big birds still to be stitched on it. I really hope that Su will like how this comes out!!

I forgot to mention over at the RR blog that I am doing something like you are doing in the perspective dept. Rachael is getting a little lighthouse up in the right corner of my square. I plan to stitch another building further down and more to the left, so it will be larger.
Aren't we clever stitchers?

That birdhouse looks familar! I can't wait to see what else you put on there. I am awaiting my 2nd piece for the Neighborhood RR I'm in. I can't wait to get started on it. Aren't they fun to work on? Can't wait to get my piece back, but it will be awhile ;)

Carol, you are being so thoughtful for Su's RR! It seems you are a wonderful RR partner :) Can't wait to see your progress on this.

Since I was away for 3 days, I just saw your contest and I can't believe how creative you've been! This was such fun. Oh, and what an honor to be first on the list ;o)
What I love most about this contest is that it shows how our lives are interconnected through our blogs!

(BTW, could you remove the link to my blog? I'm truly, really honoured that you included me! But I try to keep my stitching and professional life separate, and I wouldn't like anyone googling "Sorbonne" on the net to come across my blog! I hope you understand... :o) )

Your Mermaids are awesome! And I really understand your wish to always keep a Mirabilia in your rotation. I know I've only stitched one, and I stitched it mainly thanks to your inspiration - but aren't they pure bliss to stitch? :) I've chosen Celtic Summer for my next large project though!

Hope you have a great day! :)

You (and Dianne) are a clever stitcher! Annemarie & I were wondering about the 'smallness' of the houses in Su's RR because our own houses are sort of gigantic by comparison. Thanks for the helpful tip!!
