Mystery IX Part 6 Done

I finished up Part 6 of Mystery IX tonight. I still don't like those nuclear warhead looking plants/flowers/whatever they are supposed to be... those big burgundy things in the triangles from 6 to 9 if you look at this like a clock. Oh well.. it's done. I figure that once we finish these triangle gardens, Martina will probably start giving us bigger sections to do. But, at least then the huge parts of MTM will be finished...
I didn't really feel like starting MTM tonight. I wanted a little break between Chatelaine projects, so I picked up Women of the Mayflower again. This one is hard to put down! Now, color me dense, but I finally realized tonight that many parts of this sampler will be stitched in specialty stitches. My glances at the cover photo had made me think it was mostly done in cross stitch. It even appears that way on the chart. But, tonight I actually read the directions. Wow, there are really quite a lot of specialty stitches. For instance, I had no clue that the body of the ship is to be stitched in diagonal satin stitch. It looked like cross stitch to me :-) So, I tried that out for a little bit tonight before it got too late to continue. If you are one of the ladies stitching this along with me now, or anyone who is stitching this, you may want to read the small area of instructions under the floss key on the front page. You probably already have - LOL! It is likely just me who was so dense as to think most of this sampler was in cross stitch. Anyhow... I love the specialty stitches and am even more excited about this sampler now! I also got to do the personalization area of the sampler tonight, and I was really pleased with myself that I actually figured out how to chart the 6 in the year, and somehow even managed to do the math correctly so as to have this be centered properly in the box. Now, that never happens!

Annemarie gave me a peek today of how my Neighborhood RR is coming along - nice!! Thanks so much Annemarie!!

Well, off to bed a little earlier than usual for a Saturday night... we get to do the "Auntie and Uncle Thing" tomorrow - we have a dance recital to attend for our nieces, Caitlin and Erin, tomorrow...

Women of the Mayflower sounds so intriguing, Carol! Well done with the math-bit. Maybe you're not so dense after all ;o)

Reading instructions can sometimes be a good idea, especially before we begin stitching. Been there and done that often. I so enjoy looking at all your lovely work. Thank you for sharing. Maria S.

Hi Carol - I feel like I haven't commented here for ages - I read and admire your stitching every day though!

My DH who hardly ever comments on stitching saw your Mystery IX on the screen and said he liked it ;)

It's looking great - I'm sure you'll hardly notice the bit you don't like when it's finished.

All your other stitching is looking fantastic too - I loved seeing your mermaids again :)

Carol who knows what designers are thinking when they put certain shapes in their designs.....I'm sure Martina's Nuclear Warheads are meant to be something a whole lote more pleasing :) and the sum of the designs parts will be more aesthetic (sp) than the individual areas on their own :)

Keep up the good work - you're inspiring me out of my slump!

Mystery IX looks lovely :) Maybe when the rest is there you won't notice those warheads any longer. Must be supposed to be some sort of vegetable?

I love the Mayflower so far too :)

Congrats on finishing part 6. Hearing your opinion makes me wonder what it will look like irl when I stitch mine.

I love Women of the Mayflower. Are you using DMC or overdyed threads? The colors are great!

Hi Carol. I love Women of the Mayflower. I got fabric for it yesterday and now I am just waiting for my threads to arrive. I love the linen you are stitching it on. What is it?

WOTM looks fabulous...very motivating for me...FWIW...the chart says you can do it entirely in cross stitch and if you look closely at the sample I think(if I remember correct) that the boat was done in cross...but I think the specialty stitches will really add to the piece. Have a good week.

Hi Carol,
I've enjoyed seeing Mystery 9 again. I think your nuclear warheads will disappear into the design as you get it stitched. Love the Mayflower piece too and had to chuckle over you being dense - not likely! :D Now tired maybe, but never dense!
